Today, the Supreme Court told the world that parents can prevent their children from learning about the lifestyle of my son. My son is not a cannibal. My son is not pederast. My son isn’t even a Republican. My son, you see, is gay. Today the Supreme Court allowed for the view of those parents who see my son’s lifestyle as so heinous that they must be able to stop their children from being exposed to it.
There is so much wrong with this that there might not be enough characters in the alphabet for me to completely explain it. Let me just address one part of it.
Let’s examine how shocking it really would be for kids to learn about my son. My son is one of the three strongest, finest and most wonderful people I know. The other two are my wife and my daughter. My son is gay and so he’s suffered the indignities that accompany that label for his entire four-decade life up to now. But that hasn’t been his only hurdle. He has Crohn’s Disease. At times it has been debilitating. When my son was a teenager he had to take his nutrition through a tube that he had to place through his nose and into his stomach every night before he went to sleep. He did it by himself and he did it without complaint. He’s handled all of his challenges without complaint. And through it all, my son has succeeded at every stage of his life – college, job and, thanks to the many accepting and rational people who don’t think like the Supreme Court does, he is leading a successful and rewarding social life.
And so I say to those who agree with what the Supreme Court did today:
FUCK YOU IF YOU THINK MY SON IS SUCH AN ABOMINATION THAT YOUR CHILDREN SHOULD NOT BE MADE AWARE OF HIM. TO THE CONTRARY, YOU SHOULD ONLY BE SO LUCKY THAT YOUR CHILDREN SHOULD GROW UP TO BECOME JUST LIKE HIM.
Nailed it!
