If you are as old as I am you remember the time when JFK was running for President in 1960. The big issue was whether a Catholic like him would owe allegiance to the views of the Pope or would he exercise his own view of what was best the country. The country did not want his views determined by the Papacy.
You may know now where I am going with this.
Pope Leo IV seems like a really decent guy. Admittedly, I’ve never met the man, and I only heard of him a couple of days ago. But, from the few screen shots I watched as he ascended, he just seems decent. And what I have read about him buttresses that. He hasn’t only just talked about dedication to the poor. He’s done it. Spent decades at it.
The point I’m making makes itself now, doesn’t it? Can you even imagine the Orange Menace giving up one micro-second of his time oppressing people to actually uplift them? And on a Priest’s pay?
So, times do continue to change. In 1960, people didn’t want the President to follow the values of the Pope. And now . . . . .
