There is a lot of bitching and moaning about the Indictment against XXX (It is Passover as I write this so instead of giving up bread, I’m giving up the use of that beast’s name). There is one aspect of the indictment that even the most ardent XXX supporter is not challenging. No one is saying that he didn’t do it. Rather, these same people who complain vociferously when anyone “gets off on a technicality,” can’t find enough technicalities this time.
My favorite “technicality” complaint is the one about how none of this would have happened if XXX wasn’t XXX. This technicality claims that the indictment is “political,” that the Democrats are trying to prevent XXX from being President again. This supposition is belied by the fact that the Indictment seems to have helped XXX, but beside that, these complainers couldn’t be more right, and wrong, at the same time.
They are right, of course, that this Indictment is being brought because XXX is XXX. If he weren’t a former President of the United States who is now trying to get that job again, there would likely have been no such prosecution. But they are wrong because the fact that he is XXX is precisely why this prosecution must be brought.
Imagine that you are a Prosecutor. Imagine that you have proof that a person who is trying to be the most powerful person in the world has committed crimes, crimes that demonstrate a self-evident lack of integrity and character. What do you do? Do you say, “Well, he wants to be President so even though I have proof that he is a lying criminal, I should leave it all alone and let him possibly lead the nation with his lying, criminal ways.” Or, do you say, “Wow, if I don’t do something about this, then there is a better chance that this lying piece of shit will get his finger on the button.” It seems to me that the latter is the only option. Call that “political” if you want to. I call it sane.
