With Apologies To Rudyard Kipling

With apologies to Rudyard Kipling

“If” you have never read Rudyard Kipling’s classic poem of that name, you should. Here’s a link to it.

So, After suffering through four years of Trumpism and  watching four billion hours of election coverage, I have my own version of Kipling’s magnificent work.  Here it is:

If the mail-ins break in Biden’s way and we get to see the big blue wave

If I can pull the gun out of my mouth and once again begin to smile

If our votes keep mounting up today and we have a chance to our country save

If Georgia falls and Pennsy’s done and Arizona adds to our growing pile

If the trend goes on through the final run and Trump can stop his fucking lies

If the judges, even those Trump seated, will decide based on what the law has said

If the votes are counted, every one, and we look up, not down, with clearer eyes

If folks quit saying that people cheated and believe in democracy instead

If we will realize just what’s at stake now and not treat it like it’s just a game

If we recognize our different voices but treat those voices just  the same

If we erase the fury that Trump created and write with a calming peaceful pen

And set aside the things we’ve hated, what’s more we’ll make America great again

  1. First, I just finished reading Kipling’s poem. I’ve heard the beginning lines but never read the entire poem. Thanks for posting it. Unfortunately, I don’t know many of us who can live up to all those “Ifs”.

Kudos to you for that excellent poem! You have quite the creative mind.

Now that the election is over and there wasn’t the expected Blue Wave and crybaby Donny is still claiming victory and isn’t expecting to leave, and the gutless, Republican swamp creatures in the Senate are backing him up, I’ll be interested to read your next post.
