He Should Be Out Because They Will Keep Him In

There are a multitude of reasons why our Orange Leader should be removed from office.  One reason that is becoming increasingly clear as the Senate trial proceeds is that the Republicans won’t do it.

I know that seems contradictory, but it isn’t. As many have said, the best defense that Trump could have used would have been to admit the unassailable facts – that he did ask Ukraine for a political favor and withheld aid until they did it. Then he could say he made a mistake; that he went a little too far; that he understood that; and that it would not be repeated.  That would have gone a long way toward undercutting the Democrats’ best argument – that Trump will repeat his misdeed and corrupt the next election. That was Clinton’s winning strategy.

But, as I type those hypothetical words, I chuckle at the thought that they could possibly have come out of that lying mouth.  He would neveradmit a mistake. Rather, as Cippilone just said in his first moments of his opening statement, “The President did absolutely nothing wrong.” Trump’s lawyers are taking that position because it is the only position that Trump will allow them to take.

And the Republicans will buy it.  And that’s why Trump should be removed.

He should be removed because he has assumed the power to successfully insist that his minions, including the Republican Senators, ignore the truth. What could possibly be a more dangerous – hell, much more than dangerous – malignant condition – under which our government could operate.  It is one thing for the Liar-in-Chief to tell over 15,000 whoppers.  It is quite another for the Congress to publicly accept his whoppers as true. Our law-making will be untethered to any ground of reality. Laws need not make any sense; have any legitimate purpose; solve any real problems.  The only aim of laws in TrumpWorld will be to gratify the solipsistic desires of the Dear Leader.

Maybe the Republican Senators who will soon undermine our democratic system think differently in their private moments.  But, if they do, then that’s even worse. Then, they are willing to bow to their Leader against their better judgment.  What better sets the stage for the dystopian view I’ve set out above?

That’s why the Republicans showed such dismay over Adam Schiff’s mention last night of a report that the White House said that any Republican who voted against Trump would find their “head on a pike.”  Schiff hit them where it hurt. He exposed their obeisance to a madman.

Anybody know of any good real estate deals in Canada?

  1. The GOP would do well to listen to “History Has It’s Eye on You” from the Hamilton soundtrack … but then, der Fuhrer has already biased them against that as well. The truth will most surely come out in the future and they will have to face the history that they created. But, as I have noted far too often lately, you just can’t shame the shameless.
