Here’s What I (Said)

I had an experience today.

I was walking into the local Shop-Rite to pick up some things.  At the door were two people in those Operation Yellow Ribbon shirts.  They were handing out lists of items that soldiers in the Middle East needed and were asking shoppers to either buy a few for the troops or put some money in the bucket they were holding out for donations.

Well, maybe it was the mood I was in, I don’t know.  But, I stopped and I told them what I thought.  I said:

“Why should I have to pay for things that the military needs?  If our exalted President can’t find the money in the Treasury to give these heroes what they need, then why can’t he dip into his supposed billions and help them out?  And, anyway, the people over there volunteered to go.  They knew what they were getting into. Nobody put a gun to their heads and forced them. Actually, if we don’t help them out then the country might be better off. If it gets around how miserable it is if you volunteer for that stuff, then maybe, just maybe, fewer people will volunteer and we won’t get ourselves involved in those ridiculous wars!”

How about that tirade, huh?

Well, I never really said any of that.  I just thought it as I sheepishly put a dollar in the bucket. What a pussy I am.
